Our Story

With over 20 years of experience, KD Sound Co has been involved in events like the Americana Celebration in Genoa, the Levitt Concert Series in Carson City, the Tri-County Fair in Bishop, CA, and Street Vibrations in Reno. I’ve worked with bands like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Jefferson Starship, The Glen Miller Band, The Original Wailers, and dozens more. I’ve been involved in Tedx, Artown, Jazz and Beyond, and the Nevada Day Parade. In addition, I’ve done weddings, birthdays, churches, and a whole bunch more.

My name is Kelly Dodge. I’ve lived in Carson City for about 30 years. Back in the early 90’s I was attending a church that needed a sound person. They asked for volunteers. I had some music background and was pretty technology savvy, so I signed up. I went through a crash training course, and started doing sound weekly.

Over time, I learned a lot about how it all worked. I took classes. I went to seminars. I read tons of stuff. And since we had a practice and a performance every week with pretty much the same group, I got to experiment a lot. Eventually, I was mixing worship almost every week, and then taking the tracks and building recordings off of them. We also ran concerts that had anywhere from 50 to 750 attendees. We did regional touring acts, local acts, and even groups who were playing their first gigs. I even spent some time working for another major provider in Reno and did larger shows, including Huey Lewis and the News.

Each summer I help out with an event called Jazz and Beyond in August. Historically, another guy provided the sound system each year and I operated it. Early 2015, there was concern that the system wasn’t going to be available. So I started putting together a system. About the same time I was talking to someone who was having an issue with a sound system they were responsible for. I gave them some ideas that hopefully helped, but I didn’t have a good way for them to really follow up with me. I decided then it was time to at least get some business cards going. That’s basically when KD Sound Co was born.

Since then I’ve put together a versatile, quality sound system, added staging, and built relationships with other companies to collaborate on the many different parts of event production.
